Post-Election Blues

It’s over for the candidates, but it’s just beginning for the voters whose candidates lost the Presidential race, not to mention local, state, and Congressional races. Are you experiencing feelings of grief, disappointment, despair, hopelessness? When your candidate loses the race, it feels like you lost. Coming to grips with loss is a process that runs its own course – through shock, bargaining, anger, sadness, and acceptance – and not necessarily in that order.
Some things you can do:
- Let time do its thing, you can’t rush acceptance.
- Share your feelings with like-minded friends.
- Continue to hold tight to your values, and model them in how you live your life.
- Talk to a therapist or grief counselor and join a support group.
- Remember, there is a new election coming in less than four years.
