They Say It’s Your Birthday!

No matter our age, it seems commonplace for many of us to “take inventory” on our birthdays.

We ask ourselves whether we have accomplished all that we are “supposed” to have done by a certain age, e.g., promotions, financial savings, partnering, marrying, adventures, and on and on and on.
The problem is the way we take inventory seems designed to focus on what we have not done yet – ways in which we have failed ourselves and are falling behind in life plans. And this can lead to the birthday blues.

Additionally, there is this unspoken expectation around birthday celebrations that they be big, exciting and epic. But what if that is not how you want to celebrate your day.

On a recent road trip, I stopped in Charlotte, North Carolina and discovered the city loves public art. It boasts over 60 murals, one of which caught my eye and my heart – the Confetti Hearts Wall Mural by artist Evelyn Hanson in the South End neighborhood.
