“Every Inch of You is Perfect from the Bottom to the Top”
or Why I Love Meghan Trainor

I am not a pop music fan. I am, however, a fan of the 2014 breakout singer Meghan Trainor whose song, “All About That Bass,” sped to the top of the music charts. What is she singing about? One of my favorite topics – loving yourself just the way you are. Ms. Trainor is speaking the truth about women, size, and the perfection in being imperfect in her 1960’s-style pop song about female body types. It’s all about embracing being perfectly imperfect.
Ms. Trainor said her mom’s constant positive encouragement helped to inspire the song. According to Meghan’s mother, you don’t have to be a size two to be comfortable in your own skin. Yay, Mom!
And being comfortable in your own skin is where grit, resilience, and perseverance begin. The strength of the relationship you have with yourself ultimately dictates how you move in the world. And how you project to the rest of the world will impact the strength of your collegial and client relationships. Relationships are a critical component of professional success – not to mention satisfaction and happiness.
So, thank you, Meghan Trainor, for having the courage to speak your truth. And in the process, encourage all of us to do the same.
